The Lowertown Line at the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza
Announced on Nov. 29, 2016 via Stunt Company, rock band Cloud Cult has been promoting their newest release, The Seeker. The band was the first to develop a 100% post-consumer recycled CD case back in 2000, and have garnered critical acclaim with The Seeker, and their award-winning feature film. Even when they started out, the band declined offers to be backed by major labels, staying true to their independent roots.
All of the group is from the Midwest, and have just come off of a sold-out West Coast tour, and have announced additional dates for a special run of shows in the southern US. The band will perform two back-to-back sets each night; one an acoustic set, followed by a full electric set. The performance is titled "An Evening with CloudCult," and with the multi-media release of "The Seeker," the film version stars Josh Radnor and Alex McKenna, and has been screened to dozens of packed audiences at festivals throughout this year. Cloud Cult has also teamed up with theatrical event platform, Tugg, to bring the film to theaters nationwide.
Cloud Cult’s founder and songwriter, Craig Minowa echoes the sentiment of Tugg, and asks for the band’s supporters to bring the film to a theater in their local neighborhood. Minowa says “you take a minute to sign up online to suggest a screening at a theater near you. You then tell all of your friends about it, and we tell all of our Cloud Cult friends in your area about it. If it pre-sells enough tickets, the event is on, and you get a cut of the ticket sales.” Find out how to get involved here.
The Seeker is Cloud Cult’s tenth full-length album and critics such as "Entertainment Weekly" and "Paste Magazine" are hailing as the band’s best work yet, including exceptional critical acclaim of the film. The film has won "Best Of Fest," at the Speechless Film Festival and Tribeca’s Joe Neumaier stated that "anyone who’s ever heard echoes of their childhood during times of crisis or contemplation – meaning, anyone breathing – will utterly be swept away."
Staying true to the album title, The Seeker is about the band’s search for the meaning of life, death, and all things unknown. Influencing this was Minowa speaking about the death of his two-year old child claiming that "the art that has emerged ever since – spans the human experience from the rawest grief to the fiercest hope."
Cloud Cult also won an Emmy earlier in the year for their episode of The Lowerton Line, which follows the band from their daily non-profit work to their performance to over 10,000 fans at the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza. Fans can watch a detailed 30-minute documentary here.
